For his wedding with Hera, Zeus invited all the gods, men and animals.
Everyone came, except for nymph Chelone.
When Hermes noticed her absence, he descended from Olympus and threw Chelone’s house,
together with the nymph, into the water.
He then transformed her into a lazy tortoise,
who had henceforth to carry her house on her back and bear her name.
